The work energy is real, but it only turns on in response.
The cost of running against it: Forcing — long hours on work that never gains momentum.
The pillar
The system is Ra Uru Hu's. The application is the Career Type read, taken out of the seminar room and pointed at a business that already exists — yours.

This is a page about applying Human Design to work, written by LaVeena B. Archers, PhD — Education Director of Jovian Archive, a Certified Executive Coach through the ICF-accredited Center for Executive Coaching, and a BG5 Small and Large Business Engineer. It assumes you already run something, or are senior enough in something that your decisions cost money.
It does not teach the system. This site focuses on the practical application of Human Design for business and professional success. For authentic education and professional certification in the Human Design System, visit thehumandesignsystem.com. Every definition below links out once and then gets on with the application.
A bodygraph is calculated, not interpreted. Birth date, birth time and timezone go in; a fixed set of gates, channels and centers comes out. Run the same data twice and you get the same chart. Run it on someone else's software and you get the same chart. There is no reader deciding what a placement means this week, which is the entire reason it is usable as a working instrument rather than a diversion.
What it can tell you is mechanical and narrow: how your decisions are built to resolve, where your working energy is sustainable and where it is borrowed, how you are built to be met by other people, and what a specific group of people can and cannot do together. What it cannot tell you is whether your market is any good, whether your pricing is right, or whether you should take the deal. It describes the instrument, not the terrain.
The evidence behind the mechanics is set out rather than asserted: the methodology page states where the teaching comes from and how it is sourced, the case studies are client work, and the 22 business-figure analyses are the falsifiable part — public birth records, published Rodden ratings, and charts anyone can re-run.
Every productivity system, sales method and leadership framework was written for a general case that does not exist. The chart's only job is to tell you which specific case you are.
Section one
The first thing a chart settles, and the constraint everything else sits inside. BG5 renames the Human Design Types for work because "Advisor" describes a job and "Projector" describes an aura.
The work energy is real, but it only turns on in response.
The cost of running against it: Forcing — long hours on work that never gains momentum.
Speed is not impatience. Skipping steps is the design working.
The cost of running against it: Rework — and a reputation for not finishing.
Built to start things, not to sustain them — and not to ask first.
The cost of running against it: Initiatives blocked late, by people who felt blindsided.
The output is seeing the system, and it cannot be scheduled like labor.
The cost of running against it: Expertise given away unasked, and unpaid.
The environment is not a preference. It is the primary variable.
The cost of running against it: Decisions made under pressure, in the wrong room.
Note the bracket: Classic and Express Builders together are around seventy percent of people. That is why so much workplace advice reads as though responding to work were the only way anyone operates, and why the remaining thirty percent spend careers being told they lack drive. All five at work.
Section two
Most senior people have never been told how their own decisions resolve. They have been told to be decisive, which is advice about a posture rather than a mechanism.
The mechanism differs by person and it is calculable. Roughly half of people have Emotional Authority, which means there is no truth for them in the moment — only clarity that arrives across a wave of hours or days. Put that person in a room and demand an answer before they leave it and you will reliably get their worst answer. Others decide from the gut in the instant the question lands, and asking them to "go away and think about it" degrades the decision just as badly.
The practical consequence is a calendar change rather than a personality change. Which decisions belong inside a meeting and which have to leave the room is a question with a mechanical answer, and getting it wrong is expensive in a way that never shows up on any dashboard. This is the single change most executives can test inside a week.
Personal Interaction is how you are built to meet people — how you enter a room and open a conversation. Key Indicators are the signposts that tell you whether the arrangement is working. BG5 uses "key indicators" rather than the classical signature-and-resistance language deliberately: they are instrumentation, not moods.
Misalignment does not present as unhappiness. It presents as cost: long hours on work that never gains momentum, rework, initiatives that stall for reasons nobody can name, expertise given away because it was never recognized, and decisions made under pressure that a week would have improved. Each of those has a specific mechanical source, and each shows up in the energy and sustainability writing here.
Section three
The question business clients ask most is not "who am I" but "where does my money actually come from". A chart carries a reading on that: which activities are designed to generate, which are designed to be delegated, and which look productive while costing more than they return.
It sits mid-ladder rather than at the entry point, because it is only worth answering once the Career Type read is in place — there is no useful profit-center analysis for someone still running their week against the wrong engine. The Focused Session at $697 is the usual entry, and the The Working Experiment is where it gets tested over eight weeks rather than discussed once. The Money & Profit category is the free version of the argument.
Two people who work closely produce a set of connections that were always going to generate exactly the friction they are generating. Some of it is electromagnetic attraction wearing a disagreement as a costume; some of it is a genuine structural gap neither person can close alone. Partnership analysis puts the pattern on paper before it costs the business.
The worked example on this site is Jobs and Wozniak, both on AA-rated birth records you can check. The offer is the Business Partnership Analysis at $997.
Section four
Put 3 to 5 people in a room together, regularly, and something appears that was not there when they worked alone. BG5 calls it a Penta: a trans-auric form with its own circuitry, distinct from anything in an individual chart. It has twelve seats, and they exist whether or not anybody in the group is built to fill them.
A seat is covered when any member carries that gate — it makes no mechanical difference whether one person holds both ends of a channel or two people hold one end each. An empty seat is not a personality problem and does not get solved by trying harder; it fails the same way in every business that leaves it empty, and the gate pages above set out exactly how.
Past five people the Penta breaks. At 10 to 16 a different form takes over — OC16, with six departments rather than twelve seats: Management, Competitiveness, Direction & Planning, Logical Enforcement, Interaction, Innovation & Structure. The six partition the whole wheel: twelve anchor gates and fifty-two power-base gates, all 64 accounted for, none used twice. Between six and nine a group is past one form and not yet into the other, which is its own awkward stage and a common point at which something stops working and nobody can say what.
The balanced-team idea is a myth. There is no configuration of five people that covers everything, and chasing one produces hiring decisions made against a spreadsheet rather than a need. The useful question is which seats this group does not cover and what it intends to do about each.
Two rules, not negotiable. Everyone charted must be informed and consent — confirmed at checkout and again at intake, with each person getting their own readout. And none of this is for screening or hiring, at any price. See the ethics page.
Both group forms have free calculators here, computed in your browser with nothing transmitted: the Penta calculator and the OC16 calculator. The worked examples are the Bee Gees and the Beach Boys. The entry offer is the Team Gap Reading at $1,497 per team.
Section five
Three transits recur on a human timescale and each does something specific to a working life. The Saturn return around 29 tests whether the structure someone built is theirs. The Uranus opposition around 40 breaks what has calcified. The Chiron return around 50 returns to the injury the career was organized around.
These are dates, not moods, and they are calculable in advance — which makes them plannable. Several figure articles carry the actual transit charts: the licensing pivot and Dior's first refusal are both read against them. The Cycles & 2027 category covers the wider shift.
Section six
Every price is on the page. There is no free discovery call in either direction, because a free call is a sales meeting both people pretend is something else and its cost gets priced into whatever is sold at the end of it.
Two credits are stated rather than negotiated: the Focused Session credits against the two largest containers within 30 days, and the Team Gap Reading credits against the Small Business Team Analysis within 60. Testing the method first costs nothing extra if you continue, and you keep the deliverable either way. All ten offers side by side.

From the school. This site focuses on the practical application of Human Design for business and professional success. For authentic education and professional certification in the Human Design System, visit thehumandesignsystem.com. Education and certification are a different job with a different pathway, and running both from one site would serve neither.
From the coaching field. Most business coaching applies one model to everybody and treats the variance as effort. The claim here is narrower and more testable: the variance is mechanical, calculable from birth data, and specific enough to change a calendar.
From programs that resell a system. The work here is in the Ra Uru Hu lineage and nothing else is mixed into it. Derivative systems that repackage the same 64 hexagrams under new names are a different product with a different provenance; the comparison writing sets out where each actually differs.
This page is the whole argument. Each of these takes one reader and goes further than a general page can.

The ladder above is ordered by price. This is ordered by problem, which is usually the more useful question. Everything in the first column is free.
That is the Career Type question, and it is the cheapest one to answer. Run a free chart, find your Type, and read what it changes on Monday. If the description lands, the HD Career Design Report at $97 is the written read.
That is Authority, and it is the change most people can test inside a week. Your free chart names it. What to do about it in a calendar is section two above, and the Career Design Consultation · Level 1 is where it gets applied to your actual week.
Two charts produce a fixed set of connections, and most repeating arguments are one of them wearing a disagreement as a costume. The Business Partnership Analysis at $997 puts it on paper.
If there are three to five of you, run the Penta calculator — free, in your browser — and look at which of the twelve seats nobody carries. Implementation and Public Relations together take seventy percent of a group's energy, and a business with neither can work extremely hard in complete obscurity.
Check the size first. A Penta does not stretch past five, and OC16 does not arrive until ten. Between the two is a stage with no form holding it, which explains a great deal of what gets blamed on culture. The OC16 calculator reads the larger form.
Profit centers and money lines, section three. Start with the Focused Session at $697 — one hour, one decision — which credits in full against the two largest containers if you continue within 30 days.
