The five Career Types at work

Your Career Type names how you are built to produce value — how work is supposed to reach you, and what it costs when it reaches you some other way. It is the first thing a chart settles and the constraint everything else sits inside.

BG5 renames the Human Design Types for work, and the rename earns its keep. "Projector" describes an aura; "Advisor" describes a job. Both names are on every page here, because one is what you will have read elsewhere and the other is what you can actually use in a conversation about a role.

Population shares are Jovian Archive's. Note the Builder bracket: taken together, Classic and Express Builders are around seventy percent of people — which is why so much workplace advice is written as though responding to work were the only way anyone operates.

Classic Builder

Generator · ~35% of people

The work energy is real, but it only turns on in response.

Built to respond, and the only Career Type with sustainable working energy to respond with.

When it goes wrong: Forcing — long hours on work that never gains momentum.

Express Builder

Manifesting Generator · ~35% of people

Speed is not impatience. Skipping steps is the design working.

Builder energy on a fast, multi-track path: responds first, then moves in a hurry.

When it goes wrong: Rework — and a reputation for not finishing.

Initiator

Manifestor · ~9% of people

Built to start things, not to sustain them — and not to ask first.

Built to start things, and to inform the people the start is about to land on.

When it goes wrong: Initiatives blocked late, by people who felt blindsided.

Advisor

Projector · ~20% of people

The output is seeing the system, and it cannot be scheduled like labor.

Built to see and guide the energy of others, and to work by invitation rather than effort.

When it goes wrong: Expertise given away unasked, and unpaid.

Advisor at work →

Evaluator

Reflector · ~1% of people

The environment is not a preference. It is the primary variable.

Reads the health of a group back to it, across a lunar cycle rather than in a meeting.

When it goes wrong: Decisions made under pressure, in the wrong room.

Which one are you

You do not have to guess

Career Type is calculated from birth data, not chosen from a description. Run a free chart and it is the first thing you get, with no account and no payment. If you want the read rather than the label, the HD Career Design Report is $97.

Working with other people? The Career Type is a read on one person. A Penta is three to five read as one entity, and OC16 is the form a business takes at ten to sixteen. Both free.
