Chart calculated with Maia Mechanics, from an AA-rated birth record
Quick look: Tony Robbins is a 6/2 Manifesting Generator with a defined Heart center, and the single most useful thing his chart explains is why a man who insists he never set out to be in business ended up chairing a holding company spanning scores of them. His design is not built to be in the room forever. It is built to build the thing that works when he leaves. If you are running a business that currently cannot function without you personally in it, that distinction is the whole point of reading this.
His birth data is unusually solid, which matters for how much weight this can carry. Astro-Databank rates his 8:10pm birth time AA, meaning it traces to an actual birth certificate rather than to a biography or a rectification. So Profile, Authority, Cross, and line-level detail can all be read with real confidence here. He was born Anthony J. Mahavorić on 29 February 1960 in the Los Angeles area, and legally took the surname Robbins at twelve when his stepfather adopted him.

Six defined centers, and the one that runs the business
Robbins has six of nine centers defined: Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, G, and Throat. Only Head, Ajna, and Spleen are open. That is a lot of consistent, self-supplied energy, and it is worth naming plainly that a chart this defined experiences other people differently than a mostly-open chart does. There is less taking-in and more broadcasting.
Five channels do the work. 35-36, Transitoriness runs the Solar Plexus into the Throat and gives him an emotional voice that says, in effect, I have been through this. It is the channel of experience for its own sake, built to move through cycle after cycle and extract the story from each one. 59-6, Mating dissolves the barrier between him and a stranger, which in a room of ten thousand people is not a small mechanic. 10-34, Exploration is the design of following your own conviction wherever it goes. 49-19, Synthesis is sensitivity to what a group actually needs before the group can say it.
And then 40-37, Community, which is the one I would point at if I could only point at one. It runs Gate 40, Aloneness, in the Heart, to Gate 37, Friendship, in the Solar Plexus. It is the tribal bargain: I will contribute my work to the group, and in exchange I get to withdraw and genuinely rest. The rest is not optional in that channel. It is the price of the contribution. His Personality Sun sits in Gate 37 and his Personality Earth in Gate 40, so this channel is not a detail in his chart, it is the spine of his Incarnation Cross, the Left Angle Cross of Migration.
His Authority is Emotional, by way of that defined Solar Plexus. There is no truth in the moment for a design like this. Clarity arrives across a wave, over hours or days, never at the peak or the trough. For a man whose entire public product is high-intensity, room-level emotional state, that is worth sitting with: the mechanic that makes him effective on a stage is the same one that makes an on-the-spot decision unreliable for him personally.
Saturn Return (30’s), 1990: the year the room became a product
A Saturn Return arrives once every twenty-nine and a half years, when transiting Saturn returns to the exact degree it held at birth, and it reads as the end or renegotiation of whatever structure you have been operating inside. Robbins’s fell on 3 January 1990, at 29, with Saturn crossing his natal Saturn in Gate 54, Ambition, in the Root.
There is no single dated event on that day, and I would rather say so than manufacture one. What there is instead is an arc that brackets it precisely. In 1988, Bill Guthy and Greg Renker acquired the rights to his products and began producing the Personal Power infomercials; Guthy-Renker was formally incorporated during that production. The infomercial series ran from 1989. By 1990 Guthy-Renker posted 36 million dollars in earnings, and by the early nineties it was among the five largest infomercial producers in the United States with annual sales approaching 90 million. Unlimited Power had been published in June 1986; Awaken the Giant Within followed in November 1991.
Gate 54 is Ambition, and specifically the ambition of the person at the bottom looking up, the drive to transform position through sheer application. A Saturn Return on that gate showing up as the years his live-room work was converted into a manufactured, mailable, infinitely reproducible product is about as literal as these things get. The structure that ended was the one where the work only existed if he was standing in front of you.
The infomercial itself survives on his own channel, and it is worth two minutes of your attention as a business artifact rather than as nostalgia. This is the exact object that ended the first structure: him, on tape, working while he is not in the room.

Uranus Opposition (40’s), 2000: the leap-day birthday he spent going public
A Uranus Opposition arrives once, at midlife, when transiting Uranus reaches the point exactly opposite where it sat at birth. It is the cycle of the sudden, uncharacteristic break. Robbins’s fell on 29 February 2000, which was his actual birthday, one of the few he ever gets, with Uranus transiting Gate 13, the Listener, in the G center.
What he did in that window is genuinely out of character, and it is not the story usually told about him. In November 1999 he founded DreamLife Inc. and took it public, not through an IPO but through a reverse merger into an existing shell company, with the ticker changed to DLIF. He was chairman, largest shareholder, and principal content provider. He hired Peter Lund, the former CEO of CBS Inc., to run it. By the time Salon profiled the company in June 2000 it had more than 100,000 members and around 35,000 course enrollments, and Lund was sizing the personal-improvement market at six billion dollars.
Then it turned. In 2001 DreamLife pivoted away from consumers entirely, toward serving the sales forces of direct-selling organizations, and later acquired Discovery Toys. The internet self-improvement business he had gone public to build did not survive its own second year.
Gate 13 is the Listener, the gate of receiving other people’s secrets and stories and holding them. Uranus opposing his natal Gate 7, the Role of the Self, across that axis is a fair description of what actually happened: a man whose entire model was direct, in-person reception of other people’s material trying to run it through a public company and a website instead, and finding out it did not transfer. The Manifesting Generator note is worth adding. A reverse merger into a shell company is an initiation, not a response. It is the one move in his record that looks least like waiting for something real to show up, and it is also the one that did not hold.

Chiron Return (50’s), 2010: the show that asked him to stay in the room
Chiron’s orbit is eccentric, so its return does not keep to a fixed schedule. Robbins’s computes to 20 March 2010, at 50, with Chiron crossing his natal Chiron in Gate 30, Recognition of Feelings, in the Solar Plexus. Chiron is the wounded-healer placement, the point describing where a person’s own early injury becomes the thing they build a way to treat in others. Gate 30 is the gate of desire and of feelings recognized, which for a man who built a career on emotional state is almost on the nose.
Breakthrough with Tony Robbins premiered on NBC on 27 July 2010, four months after the exact return. Six episodes were produced. The first drew 3.12 million viewers and a 0.8 in adults 18 to 49, fourth in its slot. The second fell to 2.76 million. On 5 August 2010, after two episodes, NBC pulled it, leaving four unaired. They eventually went online, and OWN picked up all six and began running them in March 2012.
This is where the 6/2 Profile earns its place in the analysis. A 6th line lives in three phases: roughly three decades of trial and error, then a long stretch on what Human Design calls the roof, observing rather than participating, and then a return to engagement later as a role model. Robbins turned 50 in 2010, which is squarely the roof phase. Network television is the opposite of a roof. It asks a person to be in the room, on a weekly schedule, permanently available. Add the 2nd line, which is naturally hermit-like and does its best work when left alone until called, and a design like this has to fight its own natural position to sustain a broadcast series. The show failing is not a verdict on the man. It reads as a format asking him for the one thing his profile, at that exact age, was least built to give.

Second Saturn Return (60’s), 2019: the holding company becomes the answer
A second Saturn Return, at roughly 58, is a different event from the first. The first ends a structure you were living inside. The second usually arrives after thirty years of building your own, and shows up as that structure being formalized or tested rather than broken. Robbins’s fell on 9 February 2019, again on Gate 54, Ambition.
The most telling business fact in that window is one he stated himself. In an April 2019 press release, his own biography read: “His holding company owns more than 33 privately held businesses with combined sales over $5 billion a year.” By 2022 the same boilerplate said more than 100 businesses and over 7 billion. His current speaker biography says more than 120 businesses and combined sales exceeding 22 billion. It is worth being precise that these are self-reported figures from his own bio copy, not audited numbers, and that the combined sales of companies he holds equity in are neither his revenue nor his net worth. In a Forbes interview in October 2025 he said the number out loud as “over $10 billion,” against 22 billion in the written bio from the same period.
What is verifiable underneath the claim is real enough. Robbins Research International, founded 1983, is still the operating core. He was part of the founding investor group that paid over 100 million dollars for the Los Angeles FC expansion rights in October 2014, alongside Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm and others. He is a named investor in the group that took control of the esports organization Team Liquid in September 2016. He launched The Estate, a longevity hospitality venture with hotelier Sam Nazarian, in September 2024.
Read against Gate 54 for a second time, the arc is coherent. The first Saturn Return converted the room into a product. The second found him chairman of a structure whose entire function is that it operates without him in any given room. He put it plainly himself, in an interview in 2022: “I actually didn’t start out looking to be in business. My goal has always been impact, but at a certain point I realized that my words would die on my lips if I didn’t create a system to scale.”
That sentence is the Channel of Community talking. Contribute to the group, then get to leave. Build the thing that keeps contributing when you do.
He still teaches the same distinction, and names it as the difference between owning a business and operating one, which is the same boundary his chart has been negotiating since 1990.

How he actually picks deals, and why it fits
Robbins has described his own selection filter in a way that maps unusually well onto Emotional Authority. In the same 2022 interview he said of the investors he studies: “They find where there is the least amount of risk with the most upside, and do that again and again.”
That is a description of a decision made over time rather than in the moment. An emotionally defined person cannot trust the peak of a wave, when everything looks like upside, or the trough, when everything looks like risk. What they can trust is the shape that emerges once the wave has run. A filter built on asymmetry rather than conviction is, mechanically, a way of removing the moment from the decision entirely. He also runs a named framework he developed when he had only one business, OOC/EMR, which walks a decision through outcome, options and consequences before evaluating, mitigating and resolving. Whatever you make of the branding, a multi-stage process with deliberate delay built into it is exactly what this Authority requires.
Where the actual profit was: his open centers
Robbins has six defined centers and only three open ones, which is the most defined chart covered in this series. This site’s own model of profit potential argues that the commercial edge tends to sit in the open centers rather than the defined ones, because an open center has no fixed way of operating. It absorbs whatever is around it, cycles through every version of that pressure over decades, and turns the exposure into a read that nobody with a defined center in the same place ever acquires.
With only three, the question is not how much openness he has. It is which three, and the answer is unusually pointed.
Human Design has three awareness centers: the Ajna, the Spleen, and the Solar Plexus. Robbins has the Solar Plexus defined and the other two open. His only fixed, self-generated awareness is emotional. Everything else he knows, he is taking in from the room. For a man whose entire product is room-level emotional state, that is not a coincidence, it is the business model stated in mechanics.
Head, and it is completely empty. Not one of the three Head gates, 61, 63 or 64, is activated anywhere in his chart. The Head is mental pressure, the place questions come from. He carries none of his own. What he has built instead is a career of standing in front of other people’s questions and working them in public. An empty Head does not mean an absence of thought. It means the inquiry arrives from outside, which is a considerable advantage if your work is answering strangers and a liability only if you mistake their urgency for yours.
Ajna, with two conceptual gates and neither partner. He carries 4, Formulization, whose partner 63 is absent, and 43, Insight, whose partner 23 is absent. Gate 4 is the answer offered before the proof exists; gate 43 is the knowing that has not yet found words. Neither can complete into a fixed way of thinking. That is the mechanical signature of a mind that can take on any framework, hold it with total conviction, and set it down for a better one. The record is consistent with it. His work has always been synthesis and packaging rather than a single doctrine, and he runs named multi-stage frameworks like OOC/EMR precisely because the structure has to be supplied deliberately rather than arriving fixed. An open Ajna that has run for sixty years is where the ability to make somebody else’s model usable comes from.
Spleen, with 44 and 50, and no partner for either. Gate 44, Alertness, sits without 26; gate 50, Values, sits without 27. The Spleen is instinct, timing, and fear: the center that decides, below thought, whether a thing is safe. Open, it has no fixed alarm. It reads the fear in a room freshly every time, at whatever volume the room is running it, and it can be badly calibrated about its own. Consider what he actually sells. The product is not information. It is a person standing in a room of thousands of frightened people, reading the fear accurately enough to move it. That is an open Spleen operating at commercial scale, and it is the one center in his chart doing work that a defined Spleen, with its own fixed and unmovable read, could not do at all.
Three open centers, and the business sits in all three. The six defined ones gave him the stamina to stand there for forty years. The open ones gave him the thing he was actually selling.
What to take from it
The useful thing here is not the portfolio. It is the sequence. Robbins spent his twenties in the room, his thirties turning the room into a product, his forties trying and failing to turn it into a website, his fifties discovering that television wanted more of his presence than his design would sustain, and his late fifties chairing something that runs without him. Every one of those moves is the same design solving the same problem from a different angle: how does a person with a defined Heart, a 6/2 Profile, and the Channel of Community contribute at scale without being permanently on stage?
If your business currently depends on you being in the room, that is not automatically wrong. For some designs it is exactly right. But if you also feel the pull to withdraw, and read that pull as a discipline problem rather than a mechanic, this chart is a useful counter-example. The withdrawal was never the obstacle to the scale. In a Channel of Community design, it is the thing the scale exists to make possible.

Common questions
What is Tony Robbins's Human Design?
He is a 6/2 Manifesting Generator with Emotional Authority, Single Definition, and the Left Angle Cross of Migration. Six of his nine centers are defined: Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, G, and Throat. His birth time is rated AA by Astro-Databank, meaning it traces to a birth certificate, so every layer of his chart can be read with confidence.
Why does the article say Robbins is built to scale rather than to sell?
His defined Heart center carries Gate 40, Aloneness, in the Channel of Community, which is the mechanic of contributing to a group on the condition of getting real rest afterward. Paired with the 6/2 Profile, which spends its middle third observing from a distance rather than in the room, it points toward building systems that work without him present. He has said as much himself: that his words would die on his lips if he did not create a system to scale.
What happened at Tony Robbins's Uranus Opposition?
It fell on 29 February 2000, his actual leap-day birthday. He took a self-improvement business public through a reverse merger into an existing shell company, DreamLife Inc., with the former CEO of CBS running it. The company pivoted away from consumers within about a year and faded. It is the clearest out-of-character break in his business record.
What does the article make of the NBC show being cancelled?
His Chiron Return computed to 20 March 2010. Breakthrough with Tony Robbins premiered on NBC on 27 July 2010 and was pulled on 5 August after two episodes, with four left unaired. Read against a 6/2 Profile, the piece argues network television asked him to be permanently in the room, which is the opposite of what the roof phase of that Profile is built for.
