Building a Practice
Human Design Podcast Strategy for Practitioners
Every practitioner building a Human Design practice eventually hits the podcast question. Should you start a show? Should you pitch yourself as a guest? Is it worth the time when you would rather be doing sessions? The answer comes out of mechanics rather than marketing, and your bodygraph has already made most of the decision for you.
Speaking words into the Maya
Start with the Throat Center, because that is where all of this lives. Eleven gates land there. It is the hub of the bodygraph, the gathering place for everything moving inside you, and every one of those gates connects back to a single biological association, the thyroid. All roads lead there.
Through the Throat we get the ability to manifest form on this planet. That word matters, and it has nothing to do with being a Manifestor. Everything about life here is manifestation. So think carefully about what a podcast actually is. If you are creating a podcast, if you are speaking words into the Maya and putting it out there, it is there for everyone. You are building on that Maya. You are putting your frequency, your sound vibrations, part of your own energy out into the world.
That is one of the genuinely wonderful things about being alive right now. It is also what makes this era so loud. There is a din, a hum of so many noises, and the question for every listener is which ones they will tune into. I have signed up for plenty of courses I never opened. If I get in there and it is boring, or not stimulating, I am out. Your prospective clients are doing exactly the same thing to you.
What audio cannot carry
Here is the limit nobody in podcast marketing will tell you. A great deal of what makes this work land depends on people being physically in aura, and that does not travel through a recording.
I teach four work situations: solo, partnership, small group, large group. Partnership means two people physically in aura. Small group is three to five people in aura, arm’s length. Large group is ten or more physically in aura, and it does not work when you are just listening to a podcast. The keynotes, the language, the frequency field, the energetic flow, none of it transfers. Think about being in a stadium during a ball game. You feel something you are part of, something greater than yourself. Sitting on your couch watching the same game is a completely different story.
That is the honest ceiling on any audio strategy. Two people who have met in aura have a much stronger connective field than two people who have only ever heard each other. Remote work still works, and I run a whole business remotely, but you cannot pretend the recording does what the room does.
So stop asking a podcast to do transformation. Ask it to do introduction. Audio is how strangers find your frequency and decide whether they have an appetite for you. The actual work still happens in aura, one to one.
Your voice is not everyone’s voice
Look at the Throat gates in your own chart before you plan a single episode. Those activations are your voices. The 23 speaks I know. The 17 speaks I think. Any voice that is not yours, meaning you have no consistent activation for it, is not reliable and is not trustworthy for you.
I have both sides of this in my own design. My I know is fixed. My I think is not, and when I hear myself say “I think” I can feel behind the quality of the words that it is not knowing. So I will say I think this, let me get back to you. It is not honest to deliver it as certainty when the mechanics behind it are inconsistent.
This is the single most useful podcast filter I know. If you are being asked on a show to opine, to speculate, to give hot takes, and your Throat has no fixed capacity for that kind of expression, you will sound like you are borrowing someone else’s voice. People feel that. I do. When someone is talking at me in a voice that is not their own, I know it, and I discard it and go looking for the actual source of what they are saying.
The caution goes further if your Throat is completely open. The natural state of a fully open Throat is quietude. Deeply conditioned and not deconditioned, that same openness becomes the person doing most of the talking instead of paying attention to whoever is actually designed to be talking. Podcasting rewards talking. If openness there is your conditioning story, an audio format will feed the not-self before it feeds the practice.
Fixed rhythm decides your publishing schedule
Gate 5 is the fixed rhythm, the pattern, the orientation to your own power of expression. Everyone has Gate 5 whether or not a planet sits there. And there is no place in the bodygraph more fixed in its nature than the design of someone carrying strong fives.
Which means the standard advice to publish every Tuesday forever runs into mechanics long before it runs into discipline. Some rhythms are consistent and trustworthy. Others are inconsistent, or extreme, according to whatever your own activations bring. If you set a cadence your form cannot hold, you are working against the stream rather than with it, and the show dies in month four with everyone concluding they were lazy. They were not lazy. They were arrhythmic.
The honest version of this advice is the one I have lived. After ten years on YouTube I was still throwing things up haphazardly, and I am only now starting to get better at it. Fail forward. Try it and see with your market, and let the pattern reveal itself rather than declaring it in advance.
Attunement to sound cuts both ways
Anywhere you find a fifth line quality, fifth color, fifth tone, fifth base, you are dealing with acoustic and resonant frequencies. That body is sensitive to how things sound.
If this is you, you already know it. You are listening to a podcast, a guest comes on, and it is an immediate no. You cannot listen. Call it snobbery if you want, but what is happening is the brain body system taking in information primarily through sound and rejecting a frequency it cannot use.
Two implications for practice building. First, choose the shows you go on by frequency and not by download numbers, because if you cannot resonate with a host you will not be able to deliver on their show. Second, your ideal clients are doing this to you constantly, and no amount of keyword optimization overrides it. Sound vibrational resonance is the truth of this reality. We are all sound vibrational formulas coming into contact with one another.
Guesting, invitation, and the “little things” rule
For Projectors especially, the invitation question paralyzes people here. Do you have to wait to be invited on a podcast?
No. What I tell Advisors building a practice is to advertise where the audience already is, and to get on podcasts. Open yourself to the encounter, bang into what does and does not work, trial and error your way forward.
The invitation Strategy applies to the big things. What to do for work. Where to live. Who to love, bond with, marry, have children with. That is the down on bended knee category. You do not need an invitation when it comes to anything that is little. You do not need an invitation to dress yourself. Too many people take this so literally that they wait for recognition for everything, and their practice never leaves the ground. Pitching a show about the thing you are genuinely passionate about is little. Signing a two-year co-hosting contract that becomes your working life is not.
If you are a Generator, the same correction applies from the other direction. Nobody has to formally ask you. You can respond to anything, including an open call for guests you happened to see in your inbox.
The line 5 problem with platforms
There is a real bind for practitioners with a 5 in the profile, and I want to name it rather than pretend it away.
If you feel called to make a bigger impact, you need a bigger platform. Social media, YouTube, a show of your own. But do not try to do all of them, it is too much. And I do not know many fives who love social media. Most fives do not like it. That reluctance is not a mindset problem to be coached out of you; it comes with the 5/1 and 5/2 reality of carrying a projection field you cannot see and never consented to.
The fifth line body attracts attention and attracts projection, and it is unconscious. You have no access to what you are broadcasting. When you cannot deliver on whatever people projected onto you, the reputation goes up in smoke. That is the mechanic at work rather than paranoia. Which is why I tell fives to keep strangers as strangers, keep it professional, and maintain the distance that maintains the reputation. A podcast is close to ideal on that count. You reach strangers, which is exactly who fives are here to work with, and the format keeps the appropriate distance intact.
Note the dependency risk too. Build on a platform and you are in some measure dependent on that platform, so be careful and be secure about what you would lose.
What to actually say once you are on
If you carry a third line, the content question answers itself. Teach from the lie, the flaw, the problems you have run into. What went horribly wrong that you can now teach from? Threes are here to kick the tires of this system and get to the bottom of what does not work. Document your journey and tell the story. That is a far better episode than another surface explainer on the four types.
And keep the focus narrow. The most common failure I see in new practitioners is trying to do everything, playing too many roles at once. Pick the thing you are actually an expert at, the thing you are passionate about, and let the rest go by the wayside. You cannot manufacture that shtick in your mind. It has to be what is already flowing through you that other people are asking you for.
Then make the decision the same way you would make any other. Not by strategy deck, but by your own Strategy and Authority, one decision at a time.
Common questions
Do I need an invitation before pitching myself as a podcast guest?
Not for something that small. The invitation Strategy for the Projector applies to the big things: what to do for work, where to live, who to bond with. Getting on someone's show to talk about what you are genuinely passionate about is a little thing, and you do not need an invitation for little things. Pitching your way onto shows is one of the marketing moves I actually recommend to Advisors building a practice.
Can a podcast replace in-person client work?
No, and it was never built to. Aura mechanics that require people physically in aura, particularly large-group dynamics, do not transfer through audio. Listening to a recording is closer to watching a ball game from your couch than being in the stadium. Audio is how people find you. The transformation still happens in aura, one to one.
How often should I publish if I start a show?
At whatever cadence your own fixed rhythm can hold, not the one the industry recommends. There is no place in the bodygraph more fixed in nature than a strong Gate 5, and forcing a weekly schedule your body cannot sustain breaks the pattern instead of building one.
Why do I hate the idea of a bigger platform when my work needs one?
That tension is common with a 5 in the profile. A bigger impact does need a bigger platform, and most fives I have worked with do not enjoy the exposure that comes with it. The answer is usually one channel done well rather than all of them, plus keeping professional distance so the projection field on you stays manageable.
