People ask, reasonably, why they should listen to me about any of this. It’s the right question to ask anyone in this field, and I’d rather answer it with the actual story than with a credentials wall. The credentials exist, they’re listed in plain text where you can check them, but a list doesn’t tell you the part that matters: whether the person teaching a system has actually run it on their own life, at stakes that counted, for long enough to know where it holds and where it doesn’t.
So here’s the honest version.
Thirty years of building things first
Before any chart entered my life, I spent three decades as an entrepreneur. I say that first because it’s the lens everything else passed through: by the time I met this system I had built businesses, made payroll-level decisions with imperfect information, and accumulated the entrepreneur’s usual education in what it costs to run a company on willpower and a plan. I was not a seeker looking for a framework. I was a business person with a working skeptic’s habit of asking what things are for.
That’s worth saying because this site exists at exactly that angle. When I evaluate a tool, including this one, the question is never whether it’s beautiful. The question is what it changes on a Tuesday.
2012: a label, and then a machine underneath it
When I first came to Human Design in 2012, I was told: “you’re likely a Generator.” One word, a label, the same kind of thing a Myers-Briggs code or an Enneagram number hands you, and if the system had stopped there I would have filed it with the rest of the personality shelf and moved on.
It didn’t stop there. Underneath the label was a calculated structure: two computations from birth data, one of them mapping a side of me I could not have self-reported because I’d never consciously met it, and a specific mechanism for how my body, not my mind, was built to commit to decisions. And attached to all of it was the instruction that separated this system from everything else I’d evaluated in thirty years of business: don’t believe any of this. Test it. I have a lifelong respect for anyone who invites their own audit, and shortly after finding the system I was guiding people professionally with it, still auditing as I went.
February 2013: the experiment gets personal
The deep end, for me, started in February 2013, when I began experimenting with my own Primary Health System, the layer of the chart that governs how a body is designed to take things in. I’ve written about this on the education side, and I’ll keep the summary here plain: before that work, I used to disassociate and shut down under real emotional load. I couldn’t hold a conversation together when it mattered. In the years since, I think differently, I see differently, I eat differently, and the way my mind structures a difficult conversation would have been impossible for me before. None of that changed because I learned a concept. It changed because I ran the mechanics, on my own chart, over years.
I also took a detour worth disclosing: I studied Gene Keys seriously for about a year before I certified in anything, journaled my Shadows, felt the shift the practice promises, and only later, when I could read the precise mechanics underneath a chart, understood why I’d let it go. That detour taught me the difference between material that feels true and material you can test, and it’s the reason my motto for years was “precise advice for leadership success.” I’d earned the adjective the slow way.
Certified past the point of reason
Then I did what a certain kind of student does and over-trained on purpose. Living Your Design guide. Professional analyst training. Cartography. The Variable and differentiation teaching degree. Rave Cosmology teacher. Analyst teacher. The BG5 business track through small and large business engineering, and alongside all of it, an ICF-accredited executive coaching certification, because I wanted the corporate coaching craft in my hands as well as the mechanics. The full list is public.
I don’t recommend everyone train that far; I’ve written honestly about what certification costs and returns. But I wanted to teach from the deep end of the pool, and eventually the deep end noticed: I was brought into the official work by the family of the system’s founder, Ra Uru Hu, served as faculty with both certifying bodies, and today I serve as Education Director of Jovian Archive, the organization that holds the official body of work. I say that with the disclosure it deserves: I am not a neutral observer of this system. I am a steward of its source material, and you should weigh my writing knowing that, which is why this site publishes its methodology and ethics instead of asking for trust on manner alone.
Why business became the work
Given all the directions this system can be taught, why did I plant my flag on the business application? Partly temperament: thirty years of entrepreneurship meant the career and leadership mechanics were the part I could verify fastest against lived experience. And partly a plain observation I now pass to every practitioner I train: people will pay real money for what helps them make money, and the business conversation is where this material meets people at decisions they were already going to make this quarter. A founder testing their authority on an actual deal learns more about the system in a month than a believer learns in a year, and the business context supplies an endless stream of actual deals.
That’s also why the standard on this site is proof-shaped. Case studies from real sessions. Comparisons that concede what the validated instruments genuinely do better. Pricing published in the open. Fourteen years in, the experiment is still the product, and I’m still in it: my own chart, my own businesses, my own decisions, run through the same mechanics I teach.
What I ask of you
The same thing the system asked of me in 2012: nothing on faith. Run your chart, find your strategy and authority, and test them against real decisions for a few weeks, and judge this work by what changes. If it earns its place the way it earned mine, you’ll know, and if you want the deep end sooner, that’s what the readings are for.
