Venus, Mars, and Neptune: The Heart of Your Values in Business

We are continuing our journey through profit potential and the qualities for material success, and this week we arrive at the heart of your values. Three planets carry it: Venus, which is your standards, Mars, which is the mutation, and Neptune, which is misinformation. Put together, the invitation is to bring forward what you value in the world and let it change until it marries with your spiritual integrity.

There is a warning built into that combination. When we try to work this out with the mind alone, what we often get is misinformation. Neptune has an illusory quality that is genuinely hard to pierce, so if you do not grasp your Neptune right away, do not worry. Everything works in harmony when you are operating in integrity. One piece of vocabulary before we start: a gate hanging out of a center is what Ra called a characteristic. I often say trait, because it is shorter and it rhymes with gate. Characteristic, gate, trait: all the same thing.

Venus: The Standard of What You Love

Venus shows you what you love, what is romantic, attractive, or aesthetically pleasing to you. When Venus activates a gate in an undefined center, the activation is on and off again, which magnifies that characteristic while making it hard to trust, because it is inconsistent. My own gate 21 sits in an undefined center for me, and it describes exactly the quality I love in my husband, who has the 45 sun on the other side of that channel.

When Venus activates a gate in a defined center, it contributes balance, harmony, and beauty to whatever channel is creating that definition. Venus lends what it values to the channel itself. And when Venus sits inside a defined channel, the light stays on: the person tends to come across as attractive and charismatic. My favorite archetype here is Jennifer Lopez, who has both her conscious and unconscious Venus in the channel of money. When I first saw that chart I thought, well, no wonder.

Mars: The Young Energy That Wants to Act

Mars is immature energy: virility, drive, and mutation. With a Mars-activated gate in an undefined center, that on-and-off pattern can catch you off guard. A dormant quality gets magnified, and then a transit completes the picture from the other side of the channel, or temporarily defines the whole center, and suddenly there is an aggressive urge to act. A wave of sexual energy or a fitness kick that lasts exactly as long as the transit that lit it up.

In a defined center, Mars adds enthusiasm, persistence, and fight to the theme of that center through its defining channel. Think strong like a bull, teenage virility, sometimes a bull in a china shop. In a defined channel, Mars brings courage, athletic vitality, perseverance, and stamina. I have Mars, along with Mercury, in gate 41 in my one conscious defined channel, and I finished an Ironman triathlon in my teens. That is what Mars in definition feels like from the inside.

Neptune: What Hides Behind the Veil

Neptune carries misinformation, illusion, art, and spirituality, the things that stay hidden. In transit, I have watched it bring people to experiments with altered states, intentional or otherwise, whether through drugs, alcohol, or meditation. With a Neptune-activated gate in an undefined center, the conditioning comes and goes, and this is where you can fall victim to delusion, or chase altered states to reconnect with that energy. Depending on the transit, it can also bring disillusionment or a profound experience of unity.

In a defined center, Neptune adds imagination to the defining channel, and it can also bring confusion or a feeling of being easily victimized within that center’s theme. In a defined channel, Neptune dissolves outmoded habits, lends a dreaminess, and can point to a genuine spiritual experience, a delusional streak, or a place where sacrifice is asked of you. If it is on the conscious side, other people may see it in you before you ever see it in yourself. Ra’s advice was simply to leave Neptune alone. It works perfectly when you operate in integrity.

Turning the Heart of Your Values into Business

Here is how I frame the exercise for entrepreneurs. Your definition is fixed, so it describes how you are here to help others in your own unique way. Your openness is your profit potential: it speaks to the target audience you can mirror back to themselves, which matters enormously if you are a coach, consultant, guide, or advisor. Your conscious nodes show who you are here to serve and how you see that market, while your unconscious nodes show where you be, the road you are actually traveling. Your profile, what I call your public role, is the brand of you, the why behind what you do. And for the when, you always have your internal compass: the strategy and authority you are experimenting with.
