Money & Profit
Shadows to Success: What I Found in My Own Openness
Most people come to Human Design expecting it to be about waking up to who they really are. It is. But there is a second thing sitting alongside that one, and almost nobody mentions it: there is money in your openness.
The places where you are open (where you have no fixed way of operating, where you take in and amplify everyone around you) are the places you have been most distracted, most susceptible, and most ashamed. They are also, once you stop identifying with what moves through you, where your greatest profit potential for other people lives.
I know this because it is my own story.
2012
I quit my work and threw myself entirely into studying the Human Design System after a wake-up call from a 6/2 Builder with the Lifework of Separation, carrying the Alpha and Flow strengths. He took me by the shoulders once he saw my chart and said, “You need to know this.”
He was right, though not for the reason either of us thought at the time. Experimenting with the system convinced me very quickly that there was something here worth the rest of my working life.
What I was living before that
I was working in a way that drained me, and I had been for years.
I was constantly ill. I was bitter, angry, ashamed of how my life had turned out, and paranoid about who I actually was underneath the performance. I was working away for other people’s long-term benefit. Whatever success I was producing, none of its sweetness reached me.
I want to be precise about this, because it is the part people skip. That was not a mindset problem, and no amount of positive thinking touched it. I was operating against my own mechanics, in settings that did not suit me, making decisions in other people’s energy and calling the result my judgment.
What changed
Human Design let me see my own mind clearly: to notice it manufacturing justifications out of survival fear, and to stop acting on them as though they were information.
That is a smaller-sounding shift than it is. Accepting what is, rather than constantly trying to manipulate reality into something safer, changes what you do on a Tuesday. It changes who you say yes to. It changes what you are willing to charge, and who you are willing to lose.
Because of the system, and because of the specific people who recognized me and invited me in, I now have a profitable business I love, built on helping and teaching. I have work partnerships that function. I have clients who genuinely get me, friends who accept me as I am, a loving husband, and a nourishing relationship with my child.
I am happier and more content with what is than I have ever been. Calmer, too, despite a world that has not become any less turbulent.
The part that is transferable
None of that was a get-rich-quick story. It took years to turn what I understood into work that paid, and I made most of the available mistakes on the way.
But the mechanism underneath it does transfer, and it is this: the shadows (the distractions, the susceptibilities, the places you have been most reliably fooled) are not defects to be cleared before you can be successful. Transformed, they are precisely what you have to offer other people.
You spent a lifetime being educated in that terrain, involuntarily and at considerable cost. The wisdom is already paid for. What remains is learning to see it, and finding the people who need it.
